Portugese Water Dog
About
The Portuguese Water Dog originated from the Algarve region of Portugal. From there the breed expanded to all around Portugal’s coast, where they were taught to herd fish into fishermen’s nets, retrieve lost tackle or broken nets, and act as couriers from ship to ship, or ship to shore.
Temperament
Portuguese water dogs do very well in households with cats and other dogs. They have a low prey drive, making them a good choice for households with other small animals as well. They love playing with children, but they can be a little too rambunctious for very small ones.
